SXSW Cool App: Vox.io Radically Simplifies Mobile VoIP - sabalahavock

At one of the inauguration showcase panels here, I discovered Vox.io, a sincere-fourth dimension communication app that makes conjunctive with people aside voice or video simpler than I've seen in some some other table service. Since I'm always looking apps that mightiness seriously disrupt the cellular calling juggernaut of the big wireless companies, I was interested.

I talked to, and got a demo from, the 29-year-old founder of the Slovenia-based company, Tomaz Stolfa. Here's what I learned.

You hind end habit the app on the desktop or on your mobile device, open voice or video calls on the rainfly, and even capture the content of the calls if you need to.

The coolest affair virtually vox.io is how easy it is to enlightened calls. It reduces a multiple-click process to just a couple of clicks, even if the individual beingness called does not have the vox.io app.

It does this in a couple of diametrical shipway. You can invite a non-vocalism.io-using friend to a call by sending them a pandurate radio link via email, Chirrup, IM, or Facebook; when they click the link on the other end, deuce large-scale squares appear on their screen–one leafy vegetable saying "accept", the other red expression "reject." Afterwards the Friend hits "accept" the call in is affiliated. You can create a group call by sending the same link to a group of friends.

The app does video calls (lone two-party, not aggroup) in often the same way.

Voice.io gets really interesting, and potentially disruptive, when it comes to calls between mobile users. The mobile app is iPhone-sole, but looks highly slow to use. You can invite a mobile user to a call in the same way described higher up, and they merely accept the call and information technology's connected. The mobile app contains your physical contact list, your favorite (just about named) contacts, and your call history.

You can also "search and call" wherein you search for other vox.Io user using the terms "call [your friend's name here]". Stolfa searched for "call Phillip" (unity of his contacts) and the vox.Io link showed up 3rd in the Google explore results. He then clicked the link and a call was initiated between the two.

I tried this without having signed up for an answer for. I searched "call Tomaz" and surely, the vox.io join came up commencement in the search results. Thinking this might be a special display case, I did the same affair for another of Tomaz's contacts, and the same thing happened. Tomaz says they made no special arrangement or keyword buy from Google to make this happen.

For like a sho, vocalization.io makes its money past charging users 1 cent per minute for domestic sound calls, and 10 cents per minute for international calls. The rates are really similar to those of Skype and Google Part.

Tomaz says the app is really a crossbred of a unrestricted-standing app and a browser-based service. Look-alike a World Wide Web service it enjoys prosperous access to the web and like an app it easily exploits the phone computer hardware–namely the mike, speakers, and camera.
